This game should've got the "animated" treatmentIn Werewolves: Haven Rising, you're a werewolf that is thrown into a strife story going on between humans and werewolves. Essentially, throughout the story, you must come to terms with leadership, morality, trust, and if you choose, love. This is a very basic description but seeing as how this is a text based game, I have to be vague in order to prevent accidental spoilers. This is a choose your own adventure book with several choices and plot points being altered based on your stats. The stat screen displays several bits of information ranging from name to personal affinity towards certain characters. I love these types stories because it can boast quite a bit of replay value. It's also important to note that I really liked this story. I don't want to oversell it but i played two immediate games back-to-back, not just because of story enjoyment but to see if there was a legitimate change when different choices were made. Any game that causes me to develop feelings or bonds with its characters and world is a win for me. I'll definitely keep a close eye on this company....but don't expect me to give you $500 for all of your produced content...HA HA HA HA...no.The only real negative is the lack of anything "flashy". This a book. Period. No music, no marshmellows, no kidding. This doesn't bother me but it may bother some.Is it worth $6 (I paid $4)? Yeah, totally. Unless you don't like the choose your adventure style or if you don't like reading books on Steam, which is perfectly fine, then add this game to your library, fight the good fight and join the revolution!. One of Choice Of Games' most compelling titles, and a great way of exploring the multiple means of resistance within race-based incarceration (drawing heavily from Indian reservations, the Japanese American internment, etc), except with werewolves. Explorations of violent and nonviolent resistance, and questions of autonomy and allyship, are explored with a rigor and seriousness that you'd rarely see in most games. Great work by Jeffrey Dean, and I can't wait for the sequel!. I'm not even sure if I should review this game , becauseI have thrown the stat-system completely out of the window by editing my save file and setting every skillto the maximum. After that I actually enjoyed the book quite a bit. However because of that my experience with the bookwould be pretty different compared to a normal playthrough so I'm going to try to give informationinstead of critique. On the other hand however, even while reading thestory like this, the amount of skill choices was prettyhigh, and I'm sure if I had read this book normallyI really wouldn't have enjoyed it.The stat-system sometimes practically oozes out of the choices, which tend to be simply put:"Do you want to use skill A,B,C or D?". This isn't the first time I came across something likethis in a "Choice of Game", which lead to me startingto cheat in this kind game. However I still don't quite get why these kind of systemsexist in the first place. All they do is limit the choices from the get-go and letyou play only one way while the others lead to certaindeath. So yeah the game is stat-heavy, is my point.Another thing is that this is the first book in a series, which I only realised after I was standing at the end rightin front of one big♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ing cliffhanger. It would be nice if this was written in the descriptionbeforehand. And the last thing: Because this is a book in a series ,there is a savefunctionat the end of the game. However you need to give them your e-mail-adress to save and then your save gets uploaded.I don't want to do either of those, and it's not like thosesaves are in some kind of unreachable location, that you couldn't just access them directly in future installments.Or how about simply making a folder in thedocuments-directory, you know how like almost every game does it.. I loved it, simple as that.. I played through this game on Android, and liked it enough that I bought it on Steam as well.Filled with plot twists that cause feelings of genuine horror and sympathy for the plight of the Haven werewolves, populated by believable and well-rounded NPCs that have consistent behaviour and motivations, and a vividly detailed, crumbling world, Werewolves : Haven Rising is, in a word, riveting. Most of the time when I finish a game, I want to take a break, but after playing it through once, I want to go back into that world and make different choices.I've often only read physical copies of this kind of fiction, but if everything from Choice of Games is this good, I'll be buying a lot more from them.. I want to start on a positive note. The story has a cool werewolves are a genetic mutation of humans background instead of a supernatural one. Also, the romance angle is the best I have seen in the CYOA games I have read. Now the bad news. The romance choices seem to be the only ones in the game where your choices actually go the way you expected. Too often I would make a choice and another character would do something that caused the opposite of what I intended. Some of that is expected in these games, but not as much as this one. Also, the game is too grim for my taste, but that is just preference.I was hoping for a surprise liking similar to The Wayhaven Chronicles for me, as I am not usually into werewolves or vampires.Perhaps someone more into the genre would like this, so thumbs up for that.. I love this game and have sunk many hour into it exploring the different paths you can take and the different interactions which can change the game greatly. You feel very immersed with your character and partner if you decide to have one, the writing is great as well. I love the werewolf aspects of this game, you really feel like you have a purpose as one. The only complaint that I would have is that the military almost sounds a bit unprofessional, being their tactics normally is them beating werewolves or getting dangerously close and them firing what sounds like M72 laws at armored assault vehicles, which is an awful idea if you are in firing range of one. Other than that this game is solid and been recently reccomending it to friends.
